I wasn’t planning on blogging tonight because it is, well….Sunday Night. I just got back from my first Slava! dance practice since Folklorama. And it was well overdue. I missed my friends so much. When you dance, you really do see your fellow dancers more often than family. In my case, I see them even more often since I dance with both my brother in law & sister in law!! But I do regard my fellow dancers as family. I am so fortunate to be involved with such a great group of people. Whenever we get together whether it be for a dance performance or practice, we have fun! And lots of it!!!
This past August long weekend our dance group was fortunate to perform at Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin, MB. Any Ukrainian dancer in Manitoba strives to perform at this venue and this was the first time in 14 years that I was able to perform on the Grand Stand. For anyone who has been to Country Fest, it is that same stage at the Selo. It is pretty big, and pretty amazing. We were scheduled to perform one dance per show for the Friday and Saturday evening show, as well as the Sunday afternoon show. We were rained out on the Friday and moved to the Amateur talent stage where it is covered. But Saturday, our feet graced that main stage for the first time and it was…..amazing!! We performed our signature dance, “Kyiv Nights”. With the music of Viktor Pavlic running though our veins, we rocked that stage!! The next 3 1/2 minutes of all of our lives went by in a flash and we finished wanting more. It was an experience that we practiced 3 times a week for since the beginning of June, and it was worth every second. My husband Ryan even joined our dance group to help up out with numbers and I am so glad that I got to share that experience with him. The guys in our dance group along with Cheryl (my sis-in-law) got to perform the Sunday afternoon show with our dance “Gypsy”. I got a lot of awesome pics of that dance. It starts with a beautiful duet performed by my brother & sister in law and then it moves into a testosterone driven dance by all of our guys. The music is infectious and I love the choreography. If I was allowed to perform that dance, I would!! They did so great, I am proud of all of my friends.
Here are some pictures of us from Dauphin. Meet my Slava! friends, and Slava! family.
